Ali MacGraw | Yoga Instructor

Ali MacGraw is undoubtedly one of the most treasured actresses in the history of Hollywood. As an actress, MacGraw is best known for her performances in iconic films such as Goodbye, Columbus, Players, and many more. She has also managed to win several acting awards, including a Golden Globe Award and multiple nominations for an Academy Award, including one for Best Actress.

Today, MacGraw is already in her 80s, and you could say that her acting years are long behind her. Despite not having a single acting credit for over two decades, this celebrated actress has quite a busy schedule. Today, she’s using her time to support various charities, including PETA. Besides her charitable efforts, MacGraw also managed to open her own yoga studio, and she’s believed to be a highly influential figure in the rise and popularization of yoga in the United States.

Agnetha Faltskog | Multiple Pursuits

If you’re a big fan of 70s and 80s music, then you probably have a good idea of the global impact of the Swedish pop group ABBA. Without a doubt, ABBA was one of the most influential and biggest bands in the world. One of the band’s members was Agnetha Falskog. When she decided to step away from the music industry, Falskog lived in a charming house in Sweden in order to focus on the things which she treasured the most. Anyone who has watched the hit 80s CBS show Whiz Kids certainly knows who Andrea Elson is. Elson is a well-known actress who has also starred in other shows such as ALF, where she played the role of Lynn Tanner for over four seasons. Despite a career that was ready to take off, Elson found herself cultivating a path in other fields. Though she’s now away from the limelight, it seems as if she’s enjoying her time.

Today, Elson is already in her 50s, and has left her acting days behind. Though she has walked away from the industry, Elson likes to remember her acting career by posting things such as throwback photos and other nostalgic items on her social media accounts. Besides being active on social media, Elson also keeps herself busy to some degree by working as a traveling yoga instructor and maintaining her own blog.

Amanda Bynes | Student

There’s certainly no doubt that Amanda Bynes is one of the most recognizable child stars in history. As a child actress, Bynes appeared and received numerous acting credits in films and television shows. You could certainly say that Bynes was well on her way to stardom and putting together an illustrious acting career. However, her acting career was halted when she chose to pursue other things.

Bynes is currently 36 years of age, and hasn’t been actively pursuing her previous career as a Hollywood actress. Interestingly, the She’s The Man star shifted her attention and started investing more toward a possible future in fashion. In 2019, the former actress successfully graduated from California’s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. We certainly hope that Bynes’ desire to succeed in the fashion industry would be able to manifest to a highly successful fashion brand.

Angus T. Jones | Religious Member

It’s safe to assume that everyone who watched Two and a Half Men remembers the funny kid on the show. This beloved character was portrayed by Angus T. Jones, who was able to sustain his starring role in the show into his teen years. You could say that Jones was well on his way to creating a successful career as an actor, but he had other thoughts in mind. The former child actor later turned to a field that’s completely different from acting.

It’s definitely interesting to learn that Angus decided to give up his acting career in order to become a member of the Seventh-day Adventists Church. Giving up a potentially successful career certainly isn’t easy, but we have to give credit to Angus for making such a grown-up decision. Besides his duties in his religious group, he is known to have joined a management team called Tonite.

Andrew Shue | Blogger

Andrew Shue is a well-known American actor who’s best remembered for his credit role as “Billy Campbell” on the hit television show Melrose Place. He appeared on the show from 1992 until 1999. Aside from acting, he also worked as a professional soccer player at the same time. You could say that Shue was well-adjusted to succeeding in other fields, not just acting.

Shue was widely recognized as the “heartthrob” on Melrose Place throughout his time on the show. He could have easily transitioned into appearing in other films and television shows. Instead of continuing his career as an actor, though, Shue decided to become a famous blogger. He’s the co-founder of CafeMom which is a social networking site that focuses on the shared interests of women. The website also offers various parenting content, and is an excellent platform for advice, help, and even recommendations.

It’s safe to say that Barret Oliver succeeded in stealing our hearts as a child actor. As a young and promising actor, Oliver appeared in a good number of films, including the iconic The Never Ending Story. Despite receiving a ton of praise for his performance, Oliver would decide to not continue his brewing success as an actor in Hollywood.

After his final acting credit in 1989, Oliver decided to shift his focus to a career that was in a completely different field. Interestingly, this former child actor found a passion for being on the other side of the camera, and he now works in the photography industry. Despite leaving Hollywood, Oliver was able to pursue his passion for photography, and he was able to achieve success in this field. Ariana Richards | Painter

Ariana Richards was one of the most recognizable actresses in the world during the 90s and early 2000s. You could definitely say that Richards chose a more comfortable life as a painter than being a high-profile Hollywood actress.

Blake Tuomy-Wilhoit | Firefighter

If you’ve watched and closely followed the iconic television show Full House, then you probably know who Blake Tuomy- Wilhoit is. Blake, along with his brother, Dylan, gained credit and success on the show. You could say that they were well on their way to becoming bonafide Hollywood actors. Despite the potential they’ve shown, however, they chose to live a life away from the limelight.

After choosing to walk away from Hollywood, Blake decided to work as a firefighter in Georgia for several years. After working as a firefighter, Blake returned to working in the entertainment industry again. Today, he works as a sound technician, just like his brother, Dylan. He also spends his time as a Foley mixer. In case you’re wondering, a Foley mixer is the person who mixes all the everyday sound effects and adds them in post-production.

Blake McIver Ewing | Go-Go Dancer

Blake McIver Ewing is another American actor who rose to stardom through Full House. He’s best known for his credit role as “Derek” on the show. Ewing also portrayed the role of “Waldo” in the iconic 1994 film The Little Rascals. Besides acting, Ewing was also a prolific singer-songwriter and pianist. You could say that this Full House star had a lot more to offer than just acting.

It certainly seems like a trend for Full House actors to find more success in careers other than acting. Blake is undoubtedly part of the trend, and he found success as a go-go dancer based in Los Angeles. According to Ewing, being a go-go dancer allowed him to receive a lot of good tips, and he was able to raise a lot of money because of it. Despite her success as an actress, Diaz wasn’t hesitant to retire from acting in order to follow other pursuits. Brittany Ashton Holmes | Barista

The iconic film The Little Rascals introduced us to a good number of soon-to-be Hollywood stars, including Brittany Ashton Holmes. In case you’re wondering, Holmes played the role of the cute little girl in the movie named Darla. Everyone who saw the movie were certainly touched by her performance in the film, and it made sense for fans to speculate that she’d appear in more films afterwards. However, that wasn’t the case as she gravitated away from acting.

Holmes decided to retire from acting in 1996, two years after The Little Rascals was released. Without a doubt, Holmes’ career as an actress was short-lived, and you could say that she could’ve been well on her way to becoming a well-known Hollywood actress. Today, she’s 33 years of age and currently living in Los Angeles. Holmes is also working at a Starbucks while aiming to complete a degree in political science.

Charlie Korsmo | Lawyer

Charlie Korsmo is a well-known American actor who’ll probably be best remembered for his on-screen role as “Jack” in Steven Spielberg’s Hook. You could say that being an actor was a pleasant experience for Korsmo, and he certainly enjoyed starring alongside Dustin Hoffman and Robin Williams. However, despite showing a ton of potential as an actor, Korsmo would gravitate towards a career outside of acting.

Korsmo decided that acting just wasn’t for him, and he enrolled himself at MIT. After MIT, he decided to move on to Yale to attend the university’s law program. Today, Korsmo is in his 40s and is a qualified lawyer. Besides practicing law, Charlie is also a professor at the Case Western Reserve University Law Program. Without question, this former Hook actor was able to carve his own path and find much success even away from the limelight.

Carrie Henn | School Teacher

While Carrie Henn isn’t the most famous or the most prolific child actor on this list, her time in the industry was still a noteworthy one. After all, she landed one of the most iconic roles a child actor could get during that time. If you’ve watched the iconic film Aliens, you probably remember her appearance in the film alongside Sigourney Weaver. Thanks to her talent, many fans thought she was on her way into stardom.

Despite her success in Aliens, Henn decided to take a step back from her acting career. This decision was due to the fact that she wanted to pursue a degree in liberal studies. Eventually, Henn became an elementary school teacher, and is happy with the choice she has made. We certainly hope that Carrie continues to find passion as a teacher as it is a very meaningful career to pursue.

Chris Owen | Waiter

American Pie would not be complete without The Sherminator, right? Well, that role was played by Chris Owen. Born in 1980, Owen started acting from a young age. He was only ten when he first got exposure as an actor. During that period, the family contracted a moving company so they could live in California, where all the action was. Apart from American Pie, the actor also appeared in Criminal Minds. Some fans might also remember him for his role in The Mentalist.

As it turns out, acting was not the best fit for the actor. He recognized this and went on to work as a waiter at a sushi restaurant. Owen has admitted to wanting to try again, professing his love for acting. He does know that acting can be a tough business and that he needs to make money in between roles. Despite being away, many of his fans still want him back in the limelight.

Crystal McKellar | Attorney

In some cases, many child actresses are unable to find the same success when they become adults. Could it be a curse? Well, we can say it is a repeating pattern that Crystal McKellar succumbed to. This is not to say that she was not a brilliant actress because she was. Some of the projects she worked on as a child included Fatal Judgement, The Wonder Years, and Judgment.

The former actress would later become a US attorney. After she graduated from Yale University, the actress pursued her law studies at Harvard University. Early on, she had dreamt of becoming part of litigation and so deciding on which firm she was going to join was critical. Right after graduating in 2003, she joined Davis Polk & Wardwell and Morrison & Foerster as an associate. She may have taken a different path, but McKellar certainly found success in her own right.

Daniel Day-Lewis | Fashion Designer

Retired English actor Daniel Day-Lewis is often described as one of the most prominent actors of his generation. He has received numerous credits and accolades during a career that spanned more than 40 years. Winning three Best Actor Awards at the Academy Awards was one laurel he was always proud of. Some of his more popular works include My Beautiful Laundrette and A Room with a View. He would normally alternate between the big screen and stage acting, making him a very versatile actor.

He filmed his final movie, Phantom Thread, back in 2017 but don’t expect the actor to just laze around at home now that he’s retired. Day-Lewis does have a side career as a cobbler, a skill he learned during an apprenticeship in Italy with famed master shoemaker Stefano Bemer. Whether he turns this into a full-time business or simply maintain it as a hobby is something we have to wait and see.

Danny Lloyd | Professor

Even as a child, Danny Lloyd was already into acting. He appeared as Danny Torrance in the movie adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining. Despite his excellent performance in the film, he retired from acting at the young age of ten. Because of how young he was at the time, Lloyd wasn’t told that they were filming a horror movie. Stanley Kubrick was also present to monitor everything, ensuring Lloyd’s safety.

He eventually became a teacher and in 2004, Lloyd became an associate professor in the Department of Biology at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. While many will consider this move uncommon, people were inspired his hard work to get his degree in biology. Praising him as someone who would hone the next leaders in the country. He might not be walking the red carpet anymore, but for his students, he deserves the same prestige.

David Caruso | Businessman

Police or military roles seem to be the comfort zone for David Caruso. When he started in 1980, he appeared in Getting Wasted as the cadet who almost drowned. Later on, he would star as Detective John Kelly on NYPD Blue as well as Lieutenant Horatio Caine on CSI: Miami. The latter is considered among his best work. Caruso also appeared in movies like Twins, Proof of Life and First Blood.

After CSI: Miami was cancelled due to poor ratings, Caruso took it as a sign to retire. We do give him credit for pursuing another passion of his, which is business. After retirement, he founded DavidCarusoTelevision.tv and LexiconDigital.tv. The former actor also ventured into fashion and co-established a clothing store in South Miami. Not everyone is cut out for acting and many are also not meant to be businesspeople. Fortunately, Caruso found success in both.

Dylan Sprouse | Businessman

Grace Under Fire actor Dylan Sprouse gained fame after starring on various TV shows together with his twin brother, Cole. The two are often compared, despite both of them having similar successes when it comes to their careers. In fact, Sprouse was also able to make a name for himself in the entertainment industry. Some of the major projects he had been a part of were The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things, The Kings of Appletown and The Master of Disguise.

Sprouse took on higher education and graduated from NYU’s Gallatin School, graduating with a degree in video game design. Aside from that, he also established All-Wise Meadery,  which allowed him to pursue another interest. The business is located in New York, which is the prime location for starting new ventures—something Sprouse seems prolific at. Will we get to see him in new projects soon? This remains to be seen.

Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit | Sound Technician

There are people who are meant to be in front of the camera and there are those who can do better when assigned a task behind it. Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit has been on both sides. He and his brother were given a break when they appeared as toddlers on Full House, playing the role of twins. They had reprised the role in several times, but much of their acting experience was confined to this particular series.

After retiring as an actor, he stayed within the entertainment industry, this time as a sound technician. We can say that he did a good job as an actor and receives just as much credit as a technician seeing that this part is important as well. He has worked on projects like Black Sails and Game of Thrones, to name a few. Apart from his brother, Dylan has a cousin who is also an actress, Lisa Wilhoit.

Erik Estrada | Police Officer

The 1970s, and 1980s all the way to the 1990s is seen by many as the Golden Age when TV programs and series really made their mark. Among the most popular shows is CHiPs. Erik Estrada was part of that program as California Highway Patrol officer Ponch Poncherello. Later on, Estrada gained more popularity for his work on several Spanish-language telenovelas. He also appeared on a number of infomercials and other TV programs, including Eminem’s music video, “Just Lose It”.

Playing the police officer perhaps opened various opportunities for him in real life as well and so he eventually applied to become one. On July 2016, Estrada was sworn in as a police officer, joining lawyers, other officers and the whole police enforcement group to help implement the law. Prior to this, he was also a reserve officer, which shows his early interest in this particular field.

Erik Per Sullivan | Book Co-Writer

Erik Per Sullivan has played a variety of roles, but the one people remember most is that of Dewey, younger brother to Malcolm in the series Malcolm in the Middle. He is now retired from acting, but before doing so, he appeared in Wendigo, Wonderland and Come on Over. He also voiced Sheldon in Finding Nemo and Mino in Arthur and The Invisibles. His performance has been recognized on a number of occasions, even receiving nominations for and winning the Young Artists Awards and YoungStar Awards.

Despite what seemed to be a blooming career, Sullivan decided to shift his focus elsewhere. He attended school to obtain a degree from the University of Southern California in 2009. It is not clear what happened after, but we know that in 2005, he also co-wrote a children’s book with Jane Kaczmarek about Malcolm in the Middle.

Frankie Muniz | Shop Owner (Former)

Health insurance companies always send reminders about taking care of one’s health and this is really important. But there are things that cannot be avoided, which is the case for Frankie Muniz. Suffering two bouts of stroke led to severe memory loss for the young actor. There are even those who say he is no longer able to remember how brilliantly he performed in Malcolm in the Middle. Regardless, his fans have huge respect for him.

He is no longer an actor and when he left the industry, he attempted to venture into several business opportunities. This was after he tried being a racecar driver and a drummer. He co-owned a specialty shop called Outrageous Olive Oils and Vinegars, which was located in Scottsdale, Arizona. They had to sell the store due to the current world situation and the pregnancy of his wife, but we are sure that they will get their finances back in order soon.

Freddie Prinze Jr. | Cookbook Writer

One of the most iconic male legends of the 1990s, Freddie Prinze Jr. did not only capture the heart of Buffy actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, but also the heart of several producers and moviemakers. He was tapped to work on projects like She’s All That, Freddie and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The actor also had recurring roles in Boston Legal and 24. Certainly, with all the credits he received, he made his father, whose name he carries, proud.

Perhaps because he has already proven himself to be capable of acting, Prinze Jr. decided to take a step back and focus on building his family. In the process, he developed his love and flare for cooking. This led him to writing his own cookbook and releasing it in 2016. He also still does work in entertainment, but he now is a producer and a director, focusing more on behind-the-camera work.

Gene Hackman | Writer

If you’ve ever heard of the movie Bonnie and Clyde, the name Gene Hackman will inevitably be mentioned. He became the talk of the town right after the movie was released in 1967. Hackman went on to become a well-recognized actor, working successfully on projects like Crimson Tide, The Poseidon Adventure and Superman. Most of his films were released during the 1970s to 1980s, while his last acting role was in 2004.

In that same year, Hackman appeared as a guest on Larry King Live, where he shared that he had no other acting gigs lined up. He also believed that his acting career, to a degree, was over and that it was time to move on to other jobs. The former actor went on to write three successful novels. He was later invited to The Loose Cannon, where he was asked to discuss his three books.

Hayden Christensen | Businessman

Star Wars fans know him as Anakin Skywalker. Hayden Christensen began his career in the industry when he was only 13 years old. What started as appearances on Canadian TV eventually diversified to the broader American audience in the late 1990s. Some of his early works include Life as a House,  Macht Der Leidenschaft/Family Passions and Higher Ground. Eventually, the actor gained prominence for portraying Anakin Skywalker.

In the mid to late 2000s, Christensen continued to appear in various movies including Awake, with Jessica Alba. He also had to employ lawyers when he believed one of his ideas was stolen by USA Network in 2010. Eventually, the actor moved on from all these and focused on establishing several companies. He founded his own clothing company and a production company. He also bought a farm and work there when he has time.

Isaac Lidsky | Attorney

Now a prominent speaker, author and entrepreneur, Isaac Lidsky seems to have forgotten about his acting past. Lidsky has appeared in over 100 commercials and he was also cast as Weasel on the show Saved by the Bell: The New Class. When he matured, however, the former child actor decided that acting was not the career path he wanted, but was more interested in becoming a US attorney.

He proceeded to study law and graduated in 2004. For some time, he clerked for the Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Before this, he also lost his sight. He persevered and served as an inspiration for many people, not just because of his circumstances, but due to his intellect as well. Apart from his love for law, Lidsky also has good business acumen and is a great TED speaker.

Jack Gleeson | Theatre

One of the most hated characters in the critically-acclaimed television franchise Game of Thrones is Joffrey Baratheon who was portrayed by former actor Jack Gleeson. This role helped him secure nominations from the Saturn Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Before this breakthrough role, Jack Gleeson started with minor appearances in movies like Batman Begins, Shrooms, and A Shine of Rainbows. Despite the actor’s success, however, he felt as if the life of a celebrity did not fit him. He quit during the prime of his career and went on to study philosophy at Trinity College, Dublin.

Apart from television and movie appearances, he has also made investments in his own touring theater company which produced an off-Broadway puppet show entitled Bears in Space. In 2020, he did return to acting for a bit and appeared in the BBC miniseries Out of Her Mind.

Jamie Walters | Firefighter and Paramedic

A native of Massachusetts, Jamie Walters acquired a degree in film and acting after graduating from high school. During his college days, he caught the attention of a casting agent who managed to land him in a few commercials for Levi’s 501 Jeans. He subsequently debuted as an actor in the 1991 film Shout opposite John Travolta and Gwyneth Paltrow. It is also worth mentioning that he sang Rockin’ the Pad on the said movie’s original soundtrack. A year later, the actor took the lead role in The Heights and received praise for also participating in the series’ soundtrack for the song, How Do You Talk to an Angel?

The actor’s last appearance on television was in the popular show Beverly Hills, 90210 before he left acting to pursue a career as a firefighter and paramedic in Los Angeles. It may not be as glamorous as acting, but we think he made a great choice.

Jason Zimbler

Before leaving the entertainment industry for a career as a software designer, Jason Zimbler debuted in the movie The Edge of Night and received major credits in the television show Clarissa Explains it All. A few years later, he starred together with other Nickelodeon stars like Danny Cooksey, Michael Maronna, and Marc Summers in the music video All My Friends.

Outside of film and television, Zimbler also starred in a production of Shenandoah. He parlayed his success later on to directing productions in New York. In 2007, he founded the theater company The Re-Theatre Instrument together with Sam Kusnzetz. Together, they produced productions of the finest classical works such as Faust, King Lear, and Much Ado About Nothing. It was in 2011 that Jason Zimbler eventually took a step back from acting and started working for HBO as a software designer.

Jeff Cohen | Legal Representative

There are quite a few notable personalities from Hollywood who managed to thrive in a different career after taking a step back from the entertainment industry. Among them is lawyer and former child actor Jeff Cohen. At present, he is one-half of the law firm Cohen & Gardner and is a successful law practitioner. Prior to becoming one of the most recognized legal representatives in the United States, Jeff Cohen debuted as an actor in 1983 in the film Little Shots. Two years later, he broke through portraying Chunk Cohen in Steven Spielberg’s The Goonies. He subsequently appeared in several television series like The Facts of Life, Family Ties, and Amazing Stories.

After attaining a degree of maturity, the former actor came to realize his deep-seated interest in the production and business side of Hollywood, and eventually made these the focal points of his career.

Jeffrey “Skunk” Allen Baxter | Military Software Consultant

During his high school days, Jeffrey Baxter used to work at a local music shop. This was before he met guitarist Jimi Hendrix, who had just started gaining traction in the world of music. In one of the latter’s gigs with his band Jimmy James and the Blue Flames, Baxter was tapped to fill in for the absent bassist. Later on, he migrated to Boston to pursue a college degree while working as a guitar technician and amplifier repairman at Jack’s Drum Shop. Jeffrey Baxter achieved recognition when he was recruited by the band Ultimate Spinach. He eventually founded Steely Dan and released hit albums like Can’t Buy a Thrill, Pretzel Logic, Rikki Don’t Lose That Number.

After the musician phased out of his music career, he was hired by the US Department of Defense as a consultant for military software.

Jessica Sierra | Unknown

Before she became one of the most prominent American Idol contestants, Jessica Sierra used to be part of Star Search. The degree of her singing talent helped secure her a spot in the fourth season of American Idol but she was eliminated during their 1990s-themed week. For the episode, she sang LeAnn Rhimes’ On the Side of Angels which left fans bewildered. Her poor performance didn’t sit well with Simon Cowell, who thought her to be among the strongest female singers within the competition. After her brief appearance on the show, the singer continued to perform in concerts and private events.

Along the way, she realized that singing was not for her. After a series of unfortunate circumstances, where the former singer encountered legal troubles, she ended up working  odd jobs just to make ends meet. Not much is known about her current status, but it has been reported that she is sober and continuing her recovery.

Born Jonathan Keith Gosselin, Jon Gosselin is a former television personality who is known for his appearance credits in the reality television show Jon & Kate Plus 8. It is worth noting that he appeared with his former wife Kate Gosselin and eight of their children. This includes their twin daughters who were born in 2000, and the sextuplets who followed 4 years later. Their family caught the attention of the media right around the time the sextuplets reached 17 months old. Michael Earl Schoeffling was once a popular model and Hollywood actor. After graduating from Temple University in Philadelphia, he started his career modeling for GQ.
