J.K. Rowling just got through a divorce and was barely making money to feed her little one back in 1994. While writing her book Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone, she did not have any computer or even funds to photocopy her work. Instead, she typed every version before sending them to publishing houses. Bloomsbury was the only publishing house that picked it up because the CEO’s daughter fell in love with the story. From there, the rest was history.

Jim Carrey has proven that he is one of the comedic greats of our time. But growing up, the actor had a tough time ever since his father’s passing. He continued taking on work to help his mom make ends meet to his credit. He also applied himself to learning how to become a comedian.
