Having dreamed of becoming a successful actress since the age of 13, Karyn Parsons got her earliest acting credits from the 1987 television series The Bronx Zoo. A few years later, she broke into the mainstream and gained much-deserved popularity, after her portrayal of Hilary Banks in the critically-acclaimed drama series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air; she would continue to be part of the show up until 1996. Outside of her television work, the talented actress also made an appearance in Mixing Nia. Other films she starred in include The Ladies Man, The Job, and 13 Moons.

The actress gradually became fond of a life away from the camera—she started her own company, Sweet Blackberry, which produces films about the Black minority. She is also a published author, having written the children’s books How High the Moon and Flying Free.
