However, one particular film is said to have ended her acting career—In the Cut. The said project reportedly marked a fatal point in her career as a Hollywood star due to its daring theme.

Despite the 360-degree turn, Ryan felt free. She is now happy working behind the scene. Aside from being a film writer, she also directed the 2015 movie Ithaca. Talking about her decision to step away from the limelight, she said she did not feel like she knew enough about herself or the world she was in as an actor. After feeling isolated, Ryan revealed she now wanted to “live more.”
